The
TI-503SV followed the TI-503+ and added a square-root
function. The TI-501 line of "cheap calculators"
started already in the year 1982 and brought us models like the TI-502
or the TI-507.
Dismantling
this early TI-503SV manufactured in April 2000 by
Kinpo
Electronics, Inc. in China reveals a Sharp LI3154 single-chip calculator circuit
using a conventional package. Production of the
TI-503SV was shifted in 2000 from Thailand to China.
Later models of the TI-503SV used the
more common chip-on-board (COB)
technology.
We know the Sharp LI-3154 calculator chip already from the cheap TI-1726.
