With the Galaxy 40x Texas Instruments introduced an enhanced scientific calculator performing fractional arithmetic. You may use two different modes:

Euklid's division: 56 / 5 = 11 (Q)  1 (R)
Fractional division: 56 / 5 = 11_1/5

With the SIMP and F-D-key you can shorten results and convert between fractional and decimal display:

3_35/70 SIMP 3_1/2  F-D 3.5

A more traditional housing was used with the similar TI-32 Explorer Plus and the European TI-40 Solar. If you are interested in the calculating accuracy of scientific calculators don't miss the Calculator forensics.

Stokes Publishing Company, Inc. based in Sunnyvale, California sold a companion for the teacher, view the wonderful GALACTIC 40SX.

A less sophisticated calculator using the fractional arithmetic was introduced 1991 with the Galaxy 9.
