You know this calculator? The TI-56 is the European version of the TI-55 III sold elsewhere.
The
Date code on the backside of this TI-56
reveals with Compal
Electronics a well known contract manufacturer still in business for Texas
Instruments.
Please
notice the battery compartment of this TI-56. Calculators manufactured
by Inventec
Corporation make use of different battery contacts and an additional
screw to fix the housing.
Even
the printed circuit boards (PCB's) of the two siblings manufactured in Taiwan
differ completely. Inventec Corporation placed both Integrated Circuits (IC's)
on one side, Compal Electronics used both sides of the PCB.
In 1985 Texas Instruments shifted production of the TI-56 from Taiwan to
Italy. Two things happened:
• The rigid PCB was changed to a flexible PCB. • The "PROGRAMMABLE / CONSTANT MEMORY" designation was changed. |
Don't miss the TI-56 manufactured in Italy.
Between
1985 and 1986 Texas Instruments created an amazing number of different designs
in the "Second Generation - Slanted LCD" calculator series just by
moving production to Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs) in Far East, moving manufacturing
back to their own facilities and revising the design. Please click on the
picture at the right as a switchboard to all known versions of the Second
Generation Slanted LCD calculators.
