Texas Instruments introduced in 1984 with the TI-30 Galaxy a calculator with pedagogical features in mind. It sports large keys in a meaningful layout but uses only an 8-digit display and features a rather disappointing calculating accuracy.

The TI-52 introduced in 1986 improved both disadvantages and could be called a perfect calculator.

This early prototype of the TI-52 uses the grey housing of the TI-30 Galaxy and only parts of the keyboard has the final lettering.

Dismantling this prototype of the TI-52 manufactured around April 1985 by Toshiba in Japan exhibits an internal construction identical with the TI-30 Galaxy but using a different single-chip calculator circuit.

The picture on the right gives a close-up view of the Toshiba T7767S single-chip calculator circuit.
